A story of two ranches and love of the outdoors.
In October of 2004 my wife Elvira and I Edward Cuellar purchased a 175-acre Ranch in Dimmit County 6 miles west of Asherton, Texas primarily for hunting purposes. There are seven deer blinds and feeders on the ranch along with one stocked pond and two food plots. Game consists of deer, hogs, quail, turkey, rabbit and javelina. Several large bucks have been taken and mounted by the hunters. There is a single wide mobile home on the ranch which serves as a camp house.
The Cuellar Ranching tradition started in Freer Texas by Edward's cousins Jose and Danny Cuellar when they purchased the Julio Martinez Ranch. Located in eastern Webb County the original Martinez Ranch was about 600 acres and was used for cattle and hunting. The Cuellar Ranch in Freer was sold and no longer exists. Jose and Danny passed away a few years ago but the ranching tradition they started still lives in Asherton, Texas.
I want to acknowledge and pay tribute to my father Santiago Cuellar and uncle Felipe Cuellar for taking me hunting as a young boy. I still hunt with my dads original 243 Ted Williams model he bought at the old Sears store on main street. It was not just about hunting but the overall experience and reward of being in the outdoors. To me, this was and always be priceless.
Also, want to thank Danny Cuellar and Jose (Pepe) Cuellar for allowing my dad and I to hunt on their ranch. My cousin Martha Cuellar, pictured with the horses by the pond, is our last surviving Cuellar family member in Laredo, Texas.
Now the ranching tradition continues
with our Ranch, The Cuellar Ranch.
